Welcome, this blog will primarily focus on beer, board games and other nerdy stuff. But in order to help qualify this blog as the Worst Beer Blog Ever, the posts will often be completely random and off topic.

"Midnight Tides" by Steve Erikson
I just finished "Midnight Tides" by Steve Erikson. While I love all of the Malazan books so far, this one was so far the most amusing, dramatic and interesting finish. I wish I could say more but I am afraid it would either give away spoilers, confuse or bore you. This is simply another testament to one of the best sword and sorcery series out there. I can not wait to start on "The Bonehunters"!

A Game of Thrones Board Game (Quick Review)
I finally got around to playing A Game of Thrones Board Game the other night. I believe it is worth the money! The game took a significant amount of time to figure out, but once that was done it was a blast. The game forces the players to interact both on and off the game board, it also encourages teamwork and deception. The simple goal is to conquer 7 castles in Westeros, which is by no means an easy task. There are also random elements such as Wildling attacks that if not fended can cause havoc for the players who contributed the least to the Nights Watch. The cards and starting geography of the various factions allow for the development of unique strategies and alliances. The faction make up also coincides with the books pretty well, so on top of it being fun, the game is fairly accurate. Westeros is crowded, therefore the game is intense from the very beginning! The main piece of advice I can give after playing a few games, is be aggressive!

Dungeon Defenders
I know this game has been around for some time, but I was just recently introduced to it. This is an extremely entertaining game. It is an arcade style game, yet so much more! With cartoon-y but well done (especially considering the extreme amount of action going on at any given time) graphics and a smooth, intense game play, it is a winner. I kind of reminds me of Gauntlet Legends combined with a tower defense game. Yes, that is an extremely simplified description. The game has a role playing element as one can level up and upgrade to equipment. There are some pretty amazing weapons available if one is willing to put forth the work. There is also a strategy aspect in the placement of traps, towers and other defenses. The best thing about the game is the cooperative play, because, the game is hard! It seems to be regularly updated on the Xbox and I have heard that the Steam version gathers even more attention.
The only complaint I can really think of is the repetitive nature of single player play. The difficulty often jumps dramatically within a level. This forces one to either repeatedly farm lower levels for xp and mana or solicit other players (which is kind of the point anyway...). Still, it is an excellent and addicting game that does not carry a terribly high price tag and I highly recommend it.

Malazan Book of the Fallen
I am really enjoying blogging and while my main blog is http://www.worstbeerblogever.com and focuses on beer, I am also a pretty big nerd and therefore read a lot and play board games whenever I can. So, I am going to try and operate both sites.
Since, I included books in the title, I have a quick suggestion if you are looking for something to read. I am currently on book 4 of the Malazan Book of the Fallen Series. This series is awesome, but compared to other sword and sorcery epics, extremely complex. In fact, it takes several books for one to even begin to understand what is going on. So if you are looking for a challenge with big literary rewards check out Steve Erikson's epic series. http://www.amazon.com/Gardens-Moon-Malazan-Book-Fallen/dp/0765348780
Here is a fairly recent post on some of my other current reading projects http://worstbeerblogever.com/2012/03/reading-material/

Game of Thrones Board Game 2nd Edition
I am so stoked to have found the "A Game of Thrones" board game at Barnes and Noble, I just had to blog about it! Nearly a year ago after completing "A Dance With Dragons" I purchased the card game, thinking it was a nerdy board game a long the lines of Catan and so on. I was grossly mistaken. I briefly immersed myself in the Living Card Game (LCG). (I got the game confused with "The Battles of Westeros", which was much more difficult to find. Still, I thought the card game was a lot of fun (although am still not sure of all the rules) but found that I simply did not enough friends interested in playing to justify the increasingly large amounts of money I was investing. So, I forgot about the playing in the world until I saw and purchased the game tonight! I will include a review in the near future!
